On July 16, 2012, Ocoee Lodge No. 97, I.O.O.F. signed an Endowment Scholarship agreement with Cleveland State Community College in Memory of John Geitner, who was a long time member of Ocoee Lodge and active in this community for many years. Adam Lowe of CSCC Foundation, and Janet Geitner, daughter of John Geitner, came to the signing of the Endowment Agreement.
The current Noble Grand signed on behalf of the Lodge. Stipulations in the agreements are geared to help non-traditional students with the greatest need financially. The Lodge is excited to have done this joint venture with CSCC and looks forward to knowing the impact the funds of the Endowment will return as students learn and then apply the information to the greater good.
Brother John Geitner was a member of Ocoee Lodge No. 97 and had been a member of the Odd Fellows for over 50 years. Brother John, also known as “Jack,” was active in supporting youth, coaching ball and being a great friend. Many remember him and the support he provided them in their youth. Others remember his involvement and remember seeing him with a car full of kids off to the ball field. Brother John served in World War II and was long employed with the United States Postal Service. He was also an active member at Big Spring United Methodist Church. Ocoee Lodge could find no better person to name the scholarship after than John, as he truly lived the life of an Odd Fellow.
